Once more into the Tbilisi Life Section
The last couple of days have been interesting. In the same day, the editor for The Messenger offered me a copy-editing job with Georgia Business Week, and the editor for Georgia Today set me up with the head of Galt & Taggart Asset Management, to look over their websites, press releases, and anything else in english to make sure they don't accidentally say something hugely offensive. Also I need to edit some lecturer's notes. All of this is for kish kash though, so i'm well pleased.
The GBW wants me to work friday and saterday for 100 lari a week. Now, if the american dollar continues its trend of being worth less and less each week, this could be quite the gig but as it stands that's giving up what little weekend i have for 75 bucks. Also, I work on saterday already, so it wouldn't work if i wanted it to.
The lecturer thing I find out about tomorrow, but based on the level of english my contact has displayed it may not be worth the effort. I'll probably end up doing it as a favor to the world slash good deed etc etc but i forsee a conversation regarding whether or not they said they would pay me for it. Possibly even a heated discussion.
The Galt & Taggart Asset Management thing is a bit more interesting. Nevermind that both Galt and Taggart sound like alien overlords in their own right, and combined must manage assets like a couple of motherfuckers, going out to see them was pretty wild. After a humorless and high tension talk with my new boss, they've given me a 16 page document to review at 8 dollars a page. If that goes well, they'll want me to look over the websites of their various assets, at 8 dollars a page. And if THAT goes well, they're gonna start throwing press releases my way, at 8 dollars a page. Right now, 8 is my favorite number. So, that's pretty choice.
And then, when I go to pick up my copy of GT to find out that me and my editor disagree on how to spell Stalin's birthname and read my own writing while smoking a pipe next to a roaring fire, now my editor wants some help copy editing the paper i write for! You'd think he knew better. In any case, this is all very good news, and if it keeps up i'll be a lot busier but it'll be a lot easier to get things started upon my glorious return to the western world.
From,
Your secret admirer
