Hello!

This weekend I got called Laowai twice. Once by a drunk, the other by some kids by the bus stop this afternoon. And, yeah, that's annoying. Very annoying, cuz I mean what am I going to do? I'd like to think I could yell at them in Chinese, but that just makes the whole thing funnier.

Pretty much 5 times a day I'll be just walking around minding my own business when someone will walk up to me and say "Hello!". In english, just for the giggles I guess. And, 95% of the time, that's it. Occasionally if i ignore it, someone will say it louder, like they have actual business aside from random greetings. Its like I'm walking into a wal-mart every hour on the hour. The problem is, if i reply with a Ni Hao, I get laughed at. There's madness down that road, and its a short trip.

I dunno. It's been weighing on me, I suppose. The weekend was fine, went to the music shops, the guitars they have out here are pretty rubbish but i saw some pretty lookin' Ibanez and epiphone thangs. They let me play around but it was just a cruel reminder of how long its been since i had one in my had, and how i sounded when i was in practice. I can get decent casio if i work the numbers right though, we'll see. This old laptop has been rumbling like it doesn't agree with its own power supply, and that's cause for concern.

I get paid, tommorow. So far I've been pretty good with my money, I think. We'll try and keep that up.

what's laowai? if it makes you feel better, homeless people keep calling me "hey, german dude!" and when i was up in northern brazil, everyone kept calling me "galego," which they said is their slang for someone with blond hair and blue eyes.

i looked it up. it literally means "galician," but is actually a derrogatory term. little did i realize it, they were all calling me "cracker-ass cracker!"
