Music Man

So, this weekend's been alright. Not busy. I played some twisted metal 2 with Grant, and slacked off a bit from my Chinese lessons, but come Wednesday we'll be back on track. The weekend was largely exploration-based. I found a few bookstores that look like they're big enough to carry titles in english but I didn't poke around too long. I've started to poke around a couple different "shopping" areas of town, aside from the bell tower. there's an area called xiao zhai that is really interesting, has these great walkways, some western restaurants. Another bookstore.

I've started writing again, semi-auto-biographical. It passes the time. Little short stories starring Edward Greene, a young man working in China. They say write what you know. Right now its all pretty formless, but I'll probably post something here, in case people are interested.

I was planning on picking up a computer this weekend but the numbers didn't add up. spending 3000 rmb on a computer so i could spend even more down the line to get use out of it just didn't make sense. So instead I got a keyboard. A casio, pretty small, cost me 2050 rmb after some price negotiating and i got them to throw in a bag and a little keyboard stand. So, between Reading, Writing, Music, and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass I should be pretty busy. Still, for a long time exploring the city was the major reason to get out of the apartment. The night life isn't too great, I haven't been able to find a real expat community, there's nobody to drink with except whoever's selling me the beer and that's a bad sign... I dunno. Maybe I need to start actively looking for places to explore in this fine city. I should ask the school about it.

Anyways, things are going alright. Today I'm teaching the kiddies about British Foreign Policy, and i still need an oral English lesson for this week. It's about the middle of the first semester - looking back, i'm starting to wonder where those weeks went.

I guess if this city exploration thing dries up, I can just get another job. That'd fill the hours right up. Maybe even make a little pay on the side. Anyways, things are going well. Time to start saving my 100 RMB notes.
