On the formation of classes

Coming up with my oral english classes has gotten much easier, lately. I have found, as it were, the golden formula. My monday culture classes are still taught out of the book (because otherwise my students would fail the final) which is a drag, but its nice to know that i've got the act of preparing a class down to about ten minutes.

Things have been going pretty well over here. I've been going out and about more, though that means the creative pursuits over which i toil have started to fall off. Also, i need to get more exersize [sic]. This next week I sit down with my chinese tutor and basically explain that the school refuses to get me tickets to the republic of georgia, and i need her help to find a travel agent so i can get them bought at the soonest convenience, etc. I'm kind of mad at the school for this because they won't tell me "no we can't get you tickets" but rather just told me that they couldn't get me a ticket home or some nonsense. I dunno. Right now, my optimal plan is to spend like a month in georgia, then have a day of absolutely awful travel, get a week or two back in the states, and then come home. or rather, to china. Hrm.

But, of course, this is all tenative. Still, i'll feel better once its all done. The temptation to miss my own first week of classes? pretty huge. I doubt the school would be amused.

My students have my final test coming up, which is great for me because it means i only need to plan a few more classes. Also, the classes those weeks will be craaazy shorter. This means that while lexi is here for christmas i'll have classes that are roughly half as long and will be much easier to deal with. It'll be mornings of a lot of reading don quixote.

Also, if i didn't brag to you about this yet, the store where i buy bootleg playstation 2 games has started giving me a discount for coming so often, meaning i essentially pay less than 50 cents for each game now. Understand, i'm not PLAYING all of these games. Its gotten to where i'm getitng them just to have. Its like a wine cellar or something. In case one day i might walk down the musty staircase, past where i have chained up and buried random people, grab a CD and say "oh, metal gear solid 3! And what an excellent vintage. Yes i think this will go excellent with the goose for this evening!"

Hey, as addictions go, its not SO bad.

Anyways, I've still got to prep my culture class. I have to talk about irish culture ("how do they live now?") and it is so terribly dull. I can look forward to australia because that was a prison which is pretty interesting, but so far ireland has been basically "and during this holiday english people find catholics and beat the shit out of them because they are savages" or whatever. Oddly enough, coming to china has taught me that it is impossible to do business here without knowing the right people, and teaching a culture class has taught me not to trust anyone from not-America. They are scary!

Oh, and there is a restaurant nearby that is open 24 hours a day and sells lamb penis.

Dan out.
