Week 6

So, i'm back from break. I just finished my tuesday shift. A couple of interesting things have happened. First of all, this business got FRIGID outside. It is cold as the dickens. I'm still pretty safe in my fleece-hoodie combo, but i don't like having to wear that inside my own apartment. Of course, no heater. Air conditioning, sure. But no heater. I think tommorow before work I'll pick up a pair of gloves.

The lesson is going pretty smoothly this week. I'm making them give a persuasive speech. So far, the kids are mostly concerned about pollution, but occasionally I would get something like "winter is better than spring", which i shot down for reasons I could not articulate. you're supposed to convince people to DO something, not just enjoy a season more or less. I dunno.

There are a couple of students from my second tuesday class who i've really hit it off with. I might start hanging out with them during the weekend if the weather improves. Their english is probably the best in their class, and they've been friendly enough. We might start rollin' deep. Who knows.

In more interesting news, I was informed monday afternoon that I have to give my first speech on wednesday. It's a 2 hour speech on Rock 'n Roll and the Blues. Not hard, but it kind of blindsided me. Apparently Mike got himself some pinkeye (what is this, first grade?) and he was up first, so now its on me to pick up the slack. The good news is, this is the first of two speeches, meaning i don't have to worry about it again for a while. Still, i lose my afternoon today on Wikipedia writing note cards and coming up with an ipod playlist to encapsulate genres, decades, etc. I figure if i play it right i can shave off 20 minutes for questions i probably can't answer, and another 40 in just songs, meaning i only have to ramble for an hour. Think about grandpa simpson. 5 bees for a quarter. This is going to be an abomination unto God.

The weather sucks, but i'm doing pretty well. My toilet seat broke in half though, cheap plastic piece of crap that it was. Its not like there's a bed bath and beyond i can just swing by to pick up a toilet seat that is not garbage. Ah well. Got to get to work.

Stay safe, everybody.
