So it's saterday night, 8 pm, and i'm sitting in an internet cafe sweating with the collected body heat of what must be 50 to 75 chinese people and the consoles that are eerily illuminating each and every face in the room. My two coworkers are off with their chinese girlfriends, presumably, and the playstation 2 is cold comfort. I did, however, manage to find a restaurant right near my apartment that at least has really good ma pou tofu, which will make dad ecstatic when he comes to visit.
I like this job a lot more when i'm actually doing it. Working. Keeping busy. Talking to people. Not sitting alone in a restaurant while 3 waitresses kind of stare at you eating about a quarter of the food they give you due to digestive issues, then spending an hour at a net cafe while it's 4 am pacific time so nobody's even on, complaining to people via blog via email, and then having 2 riveting hours of playstation time before i can convince myself its time to go to bed.
This is sooooooo lame. I mean, it could be worse. Way worse. I could work on saterdays. But i kind of wish that my students were closer so that i could buy them dinner and be charming. Or that my two apartment-mates didn't have actual valid social lives. Or something, i dunno. I just worry that 1/7th of my time this year is going to be spent doing basically what i did today. What i did today is fine, and in fact mirrors much of what i did back in the states (go for a walk, find the electronics market, play video games, go on internet, etc) but its the flying solo factor that makes for weak sauce.
a-yup.
Well, later.
